Benefits of Coconut Milk
Making coconut milk seems to be the current trend in healthy eating, and is an inevitable ingredient in the most booming diets of the moment, such as vegan, vegetarian, Paleo and much more. And it’s not a fashion issue: pure and organic coconut milk, unprocessed or pasteurized, is certainly a nutritional pump that has only benefits to give to your body.

In general, coconuts are an extremely nutrient-dense food, in addition to being tasty. Its composition is so close to our organism that the water it contains inside has been used as a substitute for blood plasma, as a serum, in warlike conflicts, and emergency situations.

One of the great contributions of coconut to our health is its high content of saturated fats (about 92% of its composition) and medium chain triglycerides or MCTS. Although both words cause fear in those who want to take care of health and figure, the fact is that this particular type of fats and triglycerides are not only beneficial to our health but are also essential for the operation of fat burning in our organism. Also, the rate at which they are metabolized makes them a fast source of energy.

How to prepare homemade coconut milk

Although many confuse the terms, it is not the same as the “coconut water,” which is the liquid that the fruit has inside it in its fresh and natural state. For its part, “coconut milk” is a compound that was made by liquefying the meat and water of this fruit. Once a uniform texture is obtained, the product is strained by a sieve wrapped in muslin, and only the liquid is preserved (although solids can also be consumed).

If you do not have a fresh coconut, you can use grated. To do this, pour each cup of coconut adds 2 cups of boiling water into the blender. Process for a few minutes until as liquid as possible. Strain and store in a jar in the refrigerator. In both cases, it is advisable to consume it within 2 days after its preparation.

If you are going to buy it, you must analyze the label of the can or the bottle very well. There should be no artificial ingredients, chemicals or additions if you are looking for pure milk. Although some are sweetened with honey or maple syrup, you will also find it natural (unsweetened). Avoid “light” or “diet” versions, which have been incorporated completely unnecessary artificial sweeteners. Where possible, look for those clearly defined as pure, organic, and non-pasteurized.

How is it used?

This product perfectly replaces cow’s milk or other in any recipe. You can use it to cook or also eat it raw. For the first case, it is best to add it at the end of cooking, so as not to expose it for long periods of time at high temperatures, which causes the loss of some nutrients. On the other hand, using it in your recipes will give an incomparable depth of flavor!

Also, it’s a great addition to hot drinks, like tea and coffee. If you want to give something more texture, when preparing it uses more meat of the fruit than its liquid, processing them to achieve a thick texture. You can even omit the soft boil and use this cream as a substitute for milk or liquid cream, although it is not suitable for conventional shakes (because it does not take firmness, unless you add other supplements, such as jellies and natural thickeners).
